The Basics

Printed Music

Printed music is the graphic representation of music, and is produced in various formats. The term score, for example, is defined as "the printed or manuscript record of all the parts of an ensemble musical work, displayed vertically".* Sheet music can be the popular reference to any piece or volume of music, but often is used to refer to single popular titles. Printed music is an important component of music research and, depending upon the question being investigated, may be useful in providing additional insight into the topic.
