Primary and Secondary Sources

Primary sources are original, uninterpreted information.

Think of a collection of a composer's unedited correspondence, or a facsimile of a music manuscript.

Secondary sources interpret, analyze or summarize.

Think of a biography of a composer or a text analyzing a musical work.
